The Hangout

The Hangout

Come join us on Saturday, August 24th, as we celebrate and support the much-anticipated reopening of our favorite community golf course, Canal Shores!

The Hangout is our most laid-back and casual event of the year. It is meant for members to invite family, kids, co-workers, friends, and furry companions who might have a passing interest in golf to join them for a day of games, laughter, food, and fun in a welcoming and unique atmosphere.

In the morning, there will be optional golf with a light team competition. This will be followed by lunch and live music on the outdoor patio near the Canal Shores pro shop. There will be a non-golf registration option for anyone who wants to come for the post-round hang. Kids, friends, and furry companions are welcome to join in the festivities.

About the Course

Canal Shores

Canal Shores Golf Course, established in 1919, winds through the neighborhoods of Evanston and Wilmette, charming and challenging golfers of all ages for generations.

Our 100-year-old community staple, has been transformed through a multi-million dollar renovation and is set to reopen this summer 2024. Led by Architect Todd Quitno, the project focused on creating an emphasis on youth golf, and includes a renovation to the holes in front of our clubhouse that will serve as a new youth golf facility, as well as the creation of a caddie academy.

Highlights of the renovation include redesigned greens, upgraded irrigation, and a new 7th hole, alongside a 30,000 sq. ft. putting green and short game area. The course, still playing to a par 60 at 3,452 yards, includes innovative features like the "temple" sixth hole, offering a unique putting experience with views of the Baha'i temple.

This ambitious endeavor aims to enrich community engagement and golfing experiences, made possible through a collaborative effort between Canal Shores, Kemper Sports, Evanston Wilmette Golf Course Association, Western Golf Association, First Tee Greater Chicago, Wadsworth Golf Charities Foundation, and the Chicago District Golf Association.

Join us on August 24th to be among the first to experience the revitalized Canal Shores—bring your friends, family, and pets for a fun hangout at one of our favorite courses!
